"Atlanta interior designer Mark Sunderland developed an affinity for Glen plaid while working his way through college at a young men’s shop established in 1926. Today, he often dons the fabric in custom-made suits—and has converted his 1929 Berkeley Park bungalow in Midtown into a shrine to the Prince of Wales, the man who abdicated his throne as King edward Viii to marry American divorcĂ©e Wallis simpson. “He appealed to my romantic side... and just epitomized style and good taste,” Sunderland says."
"He started compiling souvenir plates and cups from the coronation that never was. Today, his collection also features numerous items purchased at a late-1990s sale of the couple’s trinkets and heirlooms at sotheby’s in new York. His favorite relic is one of the couple’s private picture albums from the 1920s that contains sepia-toned images of the then-Prince of Wales riding horses. “I looked through this album and said, ‘I’ve got to have this,’” he insists. The purchase was a winner: After paying an attorney to research the source of the photographs—turns out, a now-deceased royal photographer—he was legally able to create prints of the book’s original photographs and sell them for approximately $20,000 in profits."
